In the Faculty of Computer Science, Electrical Engineering and Mathematics at Paderborn University, the following professorship is to be filled as soon as possible at the Department of Computer Science:
W2 – University Professorship (f/m/d) for Computer Systems
We are looking for an outstanding personality who represents the field of computer systems in research and teaching at the Department of Computer Science and is appropriately involved in the education of students, among others through a compulsory course in operating systems, in the study programs Computer Science and Computer Engineering. The sought personality should have an outstanding scientific track record in the field of computer systems and have published at competitive international venues and journals, for example in one or more of the following areas:
• System software, system programming, and virtualization
• Compiler construction and code generation for parallel target architectures or accelerator technologies
• Memory technologies and storage systems
• Scalable, reliable, secure, or resource-constrained systems
The Department of Computer Science is pursuing three strategic areas: Security, Data Science, and Domain-Specific Computing. Connectivity to at least the strategic area of Domain-Specific Computing is required.
We expect the position holder to be willing and interested in working on applications for large-scale projects – especially interdisciplinary ones – to actively help shape new projects and to integrate into existing research institutions. Paderborn University offers excellent opportunities for this with research facilities such as the SICP - Software Innovation Campus, the Joint Artificial Intelligence Institute (JAII), or the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing (PC²). There is also the possibility of collaborations with the Heinz Nixdorf Institute (HNI) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic System Design (IEM). Initial experience in the acquisition of competitive third-party funding is desirable. Furthermore, the ability and willingness to teach in German and English and to participate in academic self-administration is expected.
With 15 interdisciplinary research institutions and participation in 8 collaborative research centres (5 in spokesperson function), 6 DFG research groups, 8 graduate colleges and 14 DFG priority programmes, Paderborn University is the ideal environment for implementing bold research ideas.
